Piss-poor propaganda

A local filmmaker's sloppy attacks on the HOME initiative backfire.

El Tigre Coffee on Salina Street. It's a "Unit B" with almost no off-street parking! Imagine that!

Last week Steve Mims came out with his latest crockumentary, Subdivide and Conquer, which takes aim at the proposed HOME initiative. It's very similar to his previous forays into political propaganda. Spooky music plays as familiar faces of NIMBY Austin darkly forecast the coming cultural, economic and environmental apocalypse to be unleashed by a modest public policy change. The most important ingredient of a Mims production, however, is the absence of a counterpoint. Those portrayed as villains are never offered a chance to defend themselves.
