New podcast: The case for walkability

Undoing decades of bad infrastructure is not easy.

New podcast: The case for walkability
Butler Ave, the commercial center of Ambler, Pa. The street is closed to cars the first Friday of the month, May-October.

This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Adam Greenfield, the eloquent advocate for human-centered infrastructure who now leads Safe Streets Austin.

I've known Adam for years and talked with him dozens of times, but this was the first time he shared with me the personal tragedy that sparked his lifelong mission to reclaim cities from cars. On a lighter note, I also learned that he was raised in a car-loving household: his father is president of the Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club.

Adam is a relentlessly optimistic advocate who will talk to anyone – ally or antagonist – about the importance of building communities for people over machines. But he is also practical; in this interview we talked about what is and what isn't possible in Sunbelt cities like Austin.

This is my first VIDEO podcast, available on YouTube. I think the sound actually turned out well. If you are able to identify any of the books on the shelf behind my right ear, I'll owe you a cocktail next time I'm in town in two weeks. No AI!

It would also of course be fitting to listen to this podcast while taking a stroll on this gorgeous day (in Austin & Ambler!), in which case it is also available on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

It would mean the world to me if you would give it a "like" or a follow on whatever platform you're using.

Enjoy the weekend.
