Podcast episode: Digital Billboards
Digital advertising & tech malaise.
The second episode of Neighborhood Matters is out! This week I talk with Alice Woods, chair of the Planning Commission, about the prospect of digital advertising in public spaces and tech malaise in general.
Woods, a consultant for affordable housing projects and an urbanist, is generally not hostile to the evolution of the urban landscape if it serves the public good. But she worries that by allowing up to 100 digital wayfinding kiosks downtown, the city is selling something sacred at a very low price. This transitions into a general conversation about smartphones and social media, both of which I think have been net negatives for humanity.
