What are the cops actually doing?
A former cop makes a shocking accusation.
The Austin Police Department has far fewer officers than a few years ago. That's certainly one of the potential explanations for why response times have gone up.
But it's likely not the only one, and APD has thus far been extremely hesitant to collect or release data that might shed light on other potential factors.
One would hope that the lawsuit filed against the department by a former officer, which alleges that patrol officers are habitually ignoring calls for service or slow-walking their response, would put pressure on the police department to be more transparent.
