There's no rampant rise in crime
Austin's billionaires say the city has gone to shit.
None of the elections on the ballot today are really in my wheelhouse (this newsletter is mostly about city politics), but the race for District Attorney certainly overlaps with an important city policy area: crime & public safety.
If you live in a certain online echo chamber, you likely believe that Austin has become an extremely dangerous city. Not only is crime bad here, you believe, but it's getting worse every day. For instance, this tweet from the billionaire founder of KIND Snacks:
The data in fact says the opposite. And we know that because the Austin Police Department finally created a long-overdue public data portal with relatively up-to-date crime figures.
