New podcast: Neighborhood Matters

First episode: Austin's homeless kids.

New podcast: Neighborhood Matters
Yep, me on a street in Ambler, Pa. That's my official Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority jacket.

I just published the first episode of my new podcast, Neighborhood Matters. Yeah, I started podcasting a year ago but took a break after a few episodes. But now I'm back for good. I promise.

The show will not be Austin-specific but Austin will naturally be the source of much of the content.

The title of the show is pretty self-explanatory. It's about community-building. That involves local government and public policy as well as the cultural forces that strengthen or weaken our relationships with our neighbors. My recent article comparing the damage of smartphones and social media to car-centric infrastructure is a taste of the conversations I want to have.

For the inaugural episode, Homeless Kids, I talked to Liz Schoenfeld, executive director of LifeWorks Austin, a nonprofit that works with homeless youth. We talk about the largely invisible crisis of child homelessness in America and how it drives the very visible crisis of adult homelessness on our streets.

Please "follow" the show on whatever platform you use so that you'll be alerted when a new episode is available. I plan on recording weekly. And if you feel it deserves it, please give it a good rating!

And again – if you think you might want to come on the show and talk about these issues, please reach out. There are no requirements besides enthusiasm for conversation.

Happy weekend!
