I think the city is overstating its isolation on social services.
Is it time for the city of Austin to ask other local governments in the neighborhood for help?

In the wake of Prop Q's failure, City Manager T.C. Broadnax has warned Council to prepare for deep cuts to social services, much of which is done through contracts with nonprofit providers. He announced more than $5 million in cuts in December and projected $16 million in cuts in FY 27. As it stands, the city is spending $74 million of social service contracts in the current fiscal year.
