Watson's counteroffer

And Duchen wants to hike electric rates.

Watson's counteroffer

Mayor Kirk Watson just posted a new spending proposal that would only require voters to approve a 5¢ tax hike – the same level as the plan released yesterday by Zo Qadri, Paige Ellis, Mike Siegel and Krista Laine.

Wrote the mayor:

"I did not and do not want to go to 5 cents on a TRE. That is not my first choice. I believe my earlier 3.5 cent proposal is better. However, I'm willing to try to achieve consensus. And by focusing on core services, including core services that Council Members have advocated, my 5 cent proposal attempts the discipline and balance I believe we need when addressing the difficulty of both raising revenue and addressing affordability."

There's a lot of overlap with the other 5¢ proposal but there are some key distinctions that some on Council may not be able to stomach.
