What makes people choose to bike?
Alejandro de la Vega and I talk biking policy.
In the latest episode of Neighborhood Matters, I talk to Alejandro de la Vega, chair of the Bicycle Advisory Council, about why people choose to bike and what a city can do that would make more people choose to bike. Is it more of a culture issue or an infrastructure issue? Among the things we discuss:
- What arguments for multi-modal infrastructure are most powerful (hint: not climate change)?
- What type of infrastructure is most effective? Should the city do a ton of cheap bike lanes (flex posts!) or a smaller network of high-quality ones?
- Why bike lanes are good even when few people use them
