Do we need another plan?
How about a new code instead?
On the City Council agenda Thursday is an item to authorize up to $3 million to make updates to Imagine Austin, the comprehensive plan adopted in 2012.
Mayor Kirk Watson embraced the idea in his recent Watson Wire newsletter:
A lot has changed in the last 13 years. We’ve grown. We’ve stretched. And we’ve faced some pretty big challenges. It’s time to update that plan. As I said, it’s time to plan, prepare, preserve, and create. This is a chance to check in and review our progress - not start from scratch - so we can steer Austin toward a future that still feels like home to all of us.
Many others think this is a waste of time and money. I tend to agree.
