What's controversial about coordination?

What's wrong with No Wrong Door?

City Council members spent hours today hearing from leaders of the many organizations involved in the No Wrong Door initiative aimed at treating those with the most frequent encounters with police, EMS and the homeless response system. (The presentation on NWD)

As it stands, NWD is about all of these different agencies (police, EMS, Integral Care, Central Health, homeless services) coordinating on what to do about a person who keeps showing up in jail or the ER. In general Council members are supportive of the initiative, which Mayor Kirk Watson and City Manager T.C. Broadnax are hoping will get political and financial support from the state legislature. However, there remain concerns from some about civil liberties.

NOT OUR WAR TOUR — AUSTIN, TX

October 20 | Capital Factory, Downtown Austin

Earlier this year, Joe Kent resigned from the Trump administration over the war with Iran, arguing that it was not America’s fight. Now, Joe is coming to Austin, TX with bestselling author Scott Horton, veterans' advocate Dan McKnight, and foreign policy expert Adam Weinstein for a discussion on why the U.S. went to war, what the war is costing Americans, why it continues, and how to build a better foreign policy. Kelley Vlahos, Editor in Chief of Responsible Statecraft, will moderate the panel.

Doors open 5:30pm, panel starts at 6pm. Drinks & refreshments available.
Find more details & RSVP here.

NWD is already in place and, according to the city, already having some success in reducing the number of "crisis" interactions between targeted individuals and first responders.
